ReferenceDisc 2 expansion principles
- Do not change the story. It is the most important part of the experience. Gameplay rebalancing is to be expected if any additions are made.
- Reuse as much cut content as possible while being aware of some content being cut on purpose where some was due to time constraints.
- Add and invent as little as possible. This is intended to be faithful, not outright fanfiction.
- Replace as little as possible. If a scene that is to be rebuilt in-engine, reuse the text from the chair cutscene.
- If new character dialog is to be added, use existing dialog by the character as a point of reference for accents and other mannerisms.
- For every new gameplay section, later gameplay balancing must be considered and even altered.
- Stay consistent with naming schemes. If the main script uses incorrect localizations then any new text must also reflect that.
- For overworld gameplay implementation in the middle chapters, we can start by making towns and cities inaccessible until they’ve been updated with new NPC dialog/placement.
- Where applicable, consider using music from Creid, Myth, and the 20th Anniversary Concert, for variety. Naturally, not for replacing existing scene backing tracks. Mitsuda ended up making a lot of variations on the OST.
